In this blog, I'm going to share with you the secret strategies and tips that I've used to grow Instagram pages to massive sizes - strategies that I've charged my clients anywhere from $10,000 to $24,000 for. These are the same tactics that are still being taught in paid courses today, but I'm going to give them to you for free. The first step to growing your Instagram page is to set up your page and branding. Once that's done, you need to focus on creating the right kind of content to go viral. There are three main types of content on Instagram: posts, Reels, and long-form videos. Given the current trends, long-form videos are barely getting any attention, so we'll focus on posts and Reels.
Remember, the key to going viral is a combination of early engagement and viral content. I'll explain how to get that early engagement in a bit, but first, let's dive into creating viral content.
Crafting Viral Posts
Posts can be categorized into three types: informative, average valuable, and evergreen. Informative posts are your current news updates or trending topics. The Millionaire Mentor and Wealth pages are great examples of this. These posts are simply providing information, much like news channels do.
Next, we have evergreen posts. These are the types of posts that will continue to drive engagement for years to come, regardless of when they were posted. Here's an example of what those might look like.
Mastering Viral Reels
Reels, on the other hand, have a slightly different approach. If you're a personal brand or creator, you need to create Reels with a hook and a nice script. But for theme pages, you don't need to put in that much effort. The key is to figure out what type of Reel you want to present for your theme page.
Let me give you some examples to illustrate the point. The Millionaire MentorMillionaire Mentor page tends to post more informative content in their posts and trending Reel clips in their Reels. The Entrepreneurship Facts page leans more towards average valuable content in their posts and viral clips in their Reels. And the Marketing Mentor page sticks to content that is highly relevant to their theme, both in their posts and Reels.
The reason I provided these examples is to show you that these three pages, while similar in nature, have quite different approaches. The Millionaire Mentor page is more of a community-style page, where growing followers and content creation aren't too much of a challenge. But the downside is that you might also attract some non-serious followers.
On the other hand, the Marketing Mentor page is highly niche-focused, and their audience is truly interested in the content they're providing. This means they have fewer non-serious followers, and their actual audience that will pay them in the future is roughly equal to the Millionaire Mentor's 10 million followers.
The Entrepreneurship Facts page is taking a balanced approach, being safe and not risking too much. So, the first step for you is to decide which of these three approaches you want to follow, and then create content accordingly.
Unlocking the Power of Early Engagement
Now that you have your viral content ready, it's time to focus on getting that early engagement, which is the other key to going viral. Here are some proven strategies to help you achieve this:
Engaging with Your Audience
- When you post, don't reply to comments right away. Wait until you've posted your next content, then go back and reply to all the comments on your previous post.
- Make sure your replies are meaningful and aimed at starting a conversation, not just a simple "thank you" or "nice post".
- Post at the times when your audience is most active, which is typically 9 AM, 3 PM, 6 PM, and 9 PM in India.
- Immediately after posting, add a story to your profile as well. This ensures that your content reaches different segments of your audience.
- After posting, go to the recent posts of the larger pages in your niche and engage with their audience by liking and commenting on their posts.
Leveraging the 1.80$ Strategy
Another powerful strategy is the 1.80 method, which was invented by Gary Vee. The premise is simple: search for the top 10 most relevant hashtags in your niche, and then leave a meaningful comment on the top 9 posts for each of those hashtags. By doing this consistentlyconsistently (90 comments per day), you can gain around 180 new followers per day, even for a brand new page.
Mastering Instagram Stories
Stories are an incredibly powerful tool that often get overlooked. Here are some tips to maximize your story reach:
- Post at least 4-5 stories per day, maintaining a consistent posting cadence of one every 3 hours.
- Use 3-5 relevant hashtags in each story, including the #instagram hashtag.
- Utilize all the available story features like music, stickers, polls, and any unique Instagram stickers that are trending.
- Structure your stories in a way that keeps viewers engaged from the first to the last one. Start with polls or Q&As, then move to trending content or lifestyle clips, and finally, use the stories to pitch or promote something.
Hacking the Instagram Algorithm
Now, let's talk about how to get your content on the Explore page, which can drive 10,000 to 30,000 views. Here are the key factors:
- Your content must be truly viral. The algorithm will only suggest viral content to users.
- The post or Reel size should be more than 1 MB. Larger, higher-quality content is favored by the algorithm.
- Surprisingly, using fewer hashtagshashtags can actually increase your chances of getting on the Explore page. The algorithm seems to prioritize content without hashtags.
- Consistency is key. The algorithm wants to see that you're a serious, active user on the platform.
Bonus Tips for Explosive Growth
Here are a few additional tips to take your growth to the next level:
- Build an emotional connection with your followers. This will pay off when you need to sell them something or get them to pay you.
- The number of times you should post per day depends on your current follower count. Start with 3-4 posts if you're new, and increase to 5-8 if you have 10,000+ followers.
- Stay active, analyze market trends, and adapt your strategy accordingly. Don't become irrelevant like Vinodhini.
